better4me
Looks like Jazz is picking up new Q400s rather than getting the exLynx aircraft from Republic/Frontier. This is probably a good thing cause I heard the Lynx a/c were ridden hard and put away wet. So where in the network do these little beasties go? Western Canada could use the Q400 speed and range on prairies, while the triangle could go head to head with Porter and YTZ.
better4me
Maybe these are for CPA with WestJet.... No chance, the Q400 replace 15 CRJ100s and go to AC operation. IIRC correctly, AC agreed to finance the fleet refresh program and this is the first step of the fleet refresh.
Moon The Loon
Congratulations, Jazz! European operators have been trading in their CRJ's for the Q400 for speed and economy on medium length turboprop sectors. It's a new endorsement though. A DH8 endorsement is not sufficient for the Q400. Least wise, a few years ago it wasn't.

boestar
He is correct the Q400s will be used in place of 15 CRJs being removed from service. They will provide uplift for the CPA.

Super 80
Skywest has made their interest known in the leased Q400's - Republic will probably prefer to sell the owned aircraft overseas to keep them out of the hands of a domestic competitor. Looks like Jazz is picking up new Q400s rather than getting the exLynx aircraft from Republic/Frontier. This is probably a good thing cause I heard the Lynx a/c were ridden hard and put away wet. Also Im hearing that they will initially be based out west, mostly out of YYC.
vanishing point
Any new a/c (and now apparently officially announced as Q400's) will be paid for by Jazz. Well, to put it more correctly, Jazz will make the payments on them. Not AC. I asked this of one of our managers last month.Thought behind it is; if AC files again in the future, Jazz doesn't want their assets tied to AC's problems. GTFA
Jazz is definitely making plans to position themselves to be less dependent on the CPA with AC. The question is: do they have the determination to actually accomplish something other than capitulate to the demands of their flailing cash cow? Homerun
Jazz has much too high of a cost structure to win any business outside of the CPA.
chris
I think our charters account for a whopping 2% of revenues. They're working on bringing in more business though, time will tell if they manage to find anything else

GTFA
Part of the value of what Jazz offers is the level of service and the supporting structure for a reliable proposal.Sometimes all it takes is a little better marketing and promotion of the package. skyline
Jazz has much too high of a cost structure to win any business outside of the CPA.CPA is probably on its way out. High probability AC will file again. Who knows what is next. CPA from what I understand has never worked for any other carrier. The CPA has only been there to prop them up to move on its own. (BBD.B-T5.43-0.04-0.73%), the two Canadian companies announced Friday.Jazz currently sells most of its seating to Air Canada, which uses the Halifax-based regional airline's smaller planes to serve lower-traffic routes. The airline, owned by Jazz Air Income Fund (JAZ.UN-T5.090.020.39%), has options on 15 additional Q400s — making Friday's deal worth up to $937-million (U.S.).The president and CEO of Jazz Air, Joseph Randell, says the new Q400 planes will be configured with 74 seats. The Q400 NexGen plane model was launched in 2008 and is assembled in Toronto, at Bombardier's Downsview manufacturing plant.Jazz's fleet currently consists of 64 CRJ regional jets and 64 older turboprop plane models, all made by Bombardier. So does this mean an additional 15 Q400's or just that the 15 aircraft will be new aircraft from Bombardier vs. used ones from Lynx Aviation/Republic? boestar
The Q400 was always a NEW PURCHASE/Lease. There was never an intent for used aircraft
