Irene

Florida's lashing has begun....

That image I posted above is from NOAA's "live images" page from the GOES East satellite, and is updated every fifteen minutes or so (I think)... in any case, clearly Irene has been gaining some strength since she left Haiti...

Hah! 45 knots winds? That's just regular Tuesday afternoon weather for the Maritimes - nothing to get excited about.

Hurricane Irene so far.....38 reported fatalities and an estimated $10B in damages. Pretty exciting to me.

Some of those 38 fatalities{

surfing off North Carolina

drove his car into a tree (a standing growing tree)

wading in the high surf and got pulled out to sea

a house fire

collision at an intersection where traffic lights had stopped working

...

...

...

and on and on.

Your post gave the terminal forecast for Montreal. How many fatalities there? How much of that damage was in Canada?

I don't know how much damage was done in Canada but I know my sister's home just south of the Vermont/Quebec border has wind and water damage.

And yes correct. It was a YUL TAF. It was to indicate the revised projected path of the storm as it was initially thought to be headed towards the maritime provinces.

There are consistantly strong winds at many places across this country and around the world for that matter. Perhaps the maritimes is the limit of your experience. Thanks for sharing.
