Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan...

"We pick up our dog s#it in Moose Jaw!" Yelled the woman out of her car window as she passed me on her way out of Tim Horton's. ...

ohmy.gif

I had just let our dogs back in the RV we'd rented after taking them for a pee run on the opposite side of the road. I had bags handy in case that wasn't all they delivered, but that was all they needed. The older dog we have is female, and females do squat to pee... which could have been what the lady saw?.... ...but you'd think a lady that would be so inclined as to yell at an innocent stranger might know a bitch when she sees one?

Anyway, I yelled back at her, "There wasn't any!" but it was too late. It was a drive by blast... a hit and run, sort of... she wasn't about to hang around and listen to me say "We pick up our dog s#it all over Canada. ...but we had to get to Moose Jaw to hear anyone being that rude about it!"

Hey Newgirl, if you happen to know that woman, give her heck for me will ya? wink.gifbiggrin.gif

.... tongue.gif .... a short while ago, I was not more than a few stones throws from your own YYJ abode, on dear old sunny Salt Spring Island, with said rv and dogs... and I'll have you know I watched a deer peeing not 30 feet away from where I myself had just watered the alders, and there was no one nearby to soak up that animal's offerings! Justice I cry! Where is there justice!? What makes the dog's pee so special?

Mitch, Those deer do more damage to the enviroment than a hummer!

Not only do they not pick up after themselves, but they have quite a bit of weight and only about 16 square inches of hoofs. Between them and the moose, they are wrecking all the best ATV trails and 4X4 trails. An ATV only has about 4 psi of air in the tires, and distributes it's weight over a large area, where as a moose is 1200 lbs and 4 6x6 hoofs.

I always get a kick out of the hikers who hate the horses who hate the mountainbikers who hate the ATV'rs.

It's time to put the blame where blame belongs and get rid of mother nature who doesn't pick up after herself, doesn't pack out her garbage, and wrecklessly lights fires in dry forests.

BTW - Had the MJ woman switched her Ontario plates for Sask ones yet? smile.gif

They also do a $%!T load of damage when you hit them at 90 KM/H as I found out last week.

Something I didn't know though it's covered under your comprehensive insurance. thumbs_up.gif

That woman was probably my first cousin once removed- she's been known to be very vocal. Runs in the family I guess.

However I am quite annoyed that you did not take time to have a drink with me here in YQR . I would like to have met you.

Perhaps she hadn't changed her plates from BC? No disrespect but having spent years in BC visiting my father, I find that BC'ers can be very vocal about dog poo and garbage looting ! OOps did I say that?

GDR

I am also annoyed that you have never offered me a beer. I usally visit YYJ 2 times a year. My favourite city other than YQR.

Being in the hunting belt of deer, pheasant, duck etc we see many deer carcasses on our highways. So many cars are totaled after a deer collision. Unforunately many deer are not instantly killed and die a terrible death in the ditches. Luckily the humans fare better odds of survival.

And many of us have seen first hand the damage a goose can do to an aircraft engine or the aircraft itself.

Hey Mitch! You're back!

I noticed you hadn't been around a while, and I was starting to think about making some enquiries to make sure everything was all right, but it looks like you made another one of your cross country family treks. Sounds like you had fun, other than that loudmouth woman with the bad eyesight! laugh.gif

Cheers, Jennifer

Howdy Jennifer!. smile.gif Yess'm, I did indeed, and we had a great trip again. This time was planned, so was a little different than last... On the last day, both kids (now 16 and 14), without provocation or even being asked, said they'd had a great time! ...I didn't know that feeling could be bought. tongue.gif

Newgirl and Greg. Thanks... If I wasn't with my family I'd probably love to visit, time permitting of course, but while travelling together, I feel it's not fair to them. That issue came up twice and was the subject of much thought...

ACSideStick,

I'm sure she was from Toronto! She probably moved to Moose Jaw 'cause she'd heard how friendly people were. ... ...oh well. laugh.gif

Cheers folks! beer_mug.gif

I know exactly where you let the dogs go and its not as if it's a manicured park or anything but an open field.

She's probably a farmer who's p--d off at the Gov. for dismantling the CWB so took it out on you and your Ont plates. Sorry.

Shoulda stopped here where I have a run for the dogs, a 21 yr old son who would have taken the kids out and an endless supply of rum! Next trip.

GDR

You're on! I may do a Xmas run to YYJ.

To all else on the forum , invitation is open. It would be nice to meet you face to face.

Handyman

Ever been to Manitou Beach? Now thats a mineral spa. Not as classy as the MJ Spa as it has no Casino but it has a much higher mineral content in the lake and the Spa. Once you reach chest level your legs just pop up and you start to float. Its a time warp back to the 50's but well worth a few days stay.

Try to go during the summer so you can swim in the lake. I've stayed at the Manitou Nu-Inn & Spa which is right on the lake. Not fancy but the ground floor rooms have fridge, microwave etc and patio doors to grassed area and then the lake. They have their own masseuses , mud baths etc.

The Manitou Beach Spa hotel is fancier and actually has the 3 indoor pools which you pay for to use if you don't stay at the hotel.

Watrous is 10 mins. away and there is a nice golf course if you're so inclined.
