WJ 737 donation

Last week Ram Man reported that Air Canada donated one of its' DC-9's, (CF-TLT, Fin 719) to the Aviation Centre of Excellence at Confederation College in Thunder Bay (YQT). He complained that the event received very little media. He also wrote . . . but I’m sure if the donation had been made by WestJet, nothing short of a Hollywood movie production would have taken place.

Well, Ram Man you'll probably want to cry but try to find a copy of today's Vancouver Sun and look up page D3.

If the 5 X 7 photo doesn't grab your attention then perhaps the headline will. When you read the 16 column inches of the story you will be thinking "Way to go WestJet!".

Oh - and for the wrench-twisters there is a lots for you to like in the article including "The guy who taxied it over yesterday is head of line maintenance in Vancouver for WestJet and is . . . ."

And I quote, from the article, "It is the first donation of a large commercial jet aircraft to an aviation school in Canada."

Ouch!

Another great community service effort on behalf of Canada's most successful National Airline. Congratulations are in order!

Great work as well, lets just hope they can fulfill their gesture by being around when they are needed the most. You can't provide travel if you have no money to provide the infrastructure.

No........actually, WJ/Jetsgo/Canjet would probably be able to pick up the pieces very nicely in the event of failure. One has to treat his busines much like mother nature treats the unhealthy in the animal kingdom. The unhealthy are used to feed the stronger, thereby ensureing survival of a healthy environment. Much can be said of the airline industry. AC must not be allowed to devastate this industry any longer for the sake of their own survival. The industry must continue without this festering boil so as to ensure the survival of the other domestic successful airlines and make room for smarter, more savvy entrepeneurs to shape the future of Canadian aviation. The employees, well........you are welcome to apply and begin your careers over again, this time, with corporations that actually have savvy business plans in place to ensure the success and wealth for all, not just a select few.

Does anyone know if the ex-CP 737 ever made it to where it was donated? The aircraft was stripped bare and parked at YVR south across from the Flying Bever Pub. Somebody said it was going to be sunk for a wreck scuba diving attraction on the West Coast.

Not withstanding, I am sure that it is "first of its kind". Usually AC has donated some piece of junk to these schools. This donation, if you were to see it, is in fine shape and quite frankly, one that you would never know is not flying the line on a regular basis. WestJet has always strived to maintain the appearance on ALL of the fleet. Regualr washings unlike AC whose 37 fleet looks like it regularly passes through the coal mines in fernie for its morning bath.

Just listening to some YVR radio stations on the web as well as some tunes on local stations here in YYC. Mention of the donation was repeated on the stations. Way to Go WJ!!
