  1. Right but taking it to a higher court will just result in " We are not hearing this as it is a constitutional matter... Off to the SPC" Back to work legislation wont work because it is a constitutional matter. You cannot enact leglislation that contradicts the constitution. Then the Notwithstanding clause which they will not use on a federal level. The strike will be the strike and they need to go back to the table and hammer it out. As for AC it will be the same thing. Walk or Talk are the only options
  2. The primary failure of the LCC in Canada is the inability to react and rectify in a IROP situation or OOS Aircraft situation. In order to efficiently move passengers you must be able to "cover off" IROPS. This requires a fleet large enough that you can re-route or replace aircraft. LCCs in Canada have a long history of not being able to do that. An aircraft takes a mechanical delay which becomes an out of service event that could last days, all of a sudden you have dozens of flights that do not have an aircraft. This causes Mayhem (and Money) along with bad press. One option is to rebook passengers on other airlines which is supposed to be the immediate option. 2nd is to Wet Lease an aircraft to cover off the flying. This is a pricey option but best suited to get passengers where they need to be. Larger Airlines like AC and WJ are able to recover faster because of overlaps in the schedule which can allow minor delays to help correct the big ones. On a good day those minor delays iron them selves out, on a bad they get worse. In the end though the passengers all move. Bad press still abounds but very little extra money is spent to cover it off. If you are really lucky there is an operational spare waiting for a situation like this. The old adage "You have to spend money to make money" is very true if you want a successful airline. I believe, in the current market, if an airline like AC said "no bag fees, everyone gets a meal on flights over XXX, etc etc" just like the 70s and 80s. They would be the most successful airline and rake it in hand over fist. Give the people what they want and not the shareholders and they will flock to your door. The margins will be far lower but you will make that up in Volume. Just MHO
  3. I thought the Right to Strike was deemed constitutional. Was there not a case heard over the last couple of years that set the precedent and enshrined the right to strike as constitutional? That means the no legislation can be made to force them back. Only the not withstanding clause can do that.
  4. The pilot was likely informed that his qualifications were expired or currency or whatever. He likely just4 completed some training and the paperwork had not caught up. They were probably joking in the pointy end about it. "Well I guess I'm not qualified" lol... I have this sort of thing before.
  5. Time for people to realise that unless you have a really big Scrooge McDuck Vault of gold and cash, you don't start an airline in Canada. How many times in my career have I seen this scenario play out. I don't have enough fingers.
  6. The CPA Pays Jazz for the AVAILABLE seat capacity. if its available Jazz gets paid.
  7. 100% how tax dollars should be spent.
  8. It is long overdue for an eruption. Gonna be interesting when we are plunged into an ice age when it does blow. What are all the climate activists gonna do then
  9. The engines are always on fire. its when the surroundings of the engine are on fire that it becomes a problem
  10. 100 LL and 100UL should have the same detonation characteristics since they share the same AKI. The issue comes with the older engines not having the hardened Valves and seats which the lead helped protect. This was an issue when lead was removed from Auto Gas, the Valves started to see damage that the lead was actually helping to prevent. They should just make everything diesel and run it on JetA
  11. Walked past this in the hangar yesterday getting its engine replaced.
  12. none of this mentions "in the act of taking off or landing" only while navigating on the water.
  13. is there a story anywhere?
  14. someone finally hit it with a fire extinguisher almost 5 minutes later.
