blues deville
My wife just spent some time in AMS....flew KLM from Canada....self check-in, 747 combi.... good flight with friendly cabin crew to AMS....30 minutes early into AMS. Return flight not so good. The AMS self-service kiosk said she had to check-in with an agent which was a 45 minute line-up. Told at check-in her online selected aisle seat was now a window seat. Once at boarding lounge she was handed another boarding pass which ended up a middle seat. She managed to change to an aisle seat once on board. Unfortunately the entire right side of the aircraft had no entertainment system audio except country music. Food was acceptable, crew was friendly....she said there was duct tape holding parts of the lav together......arrived 20 minutes late into YYZ. She chose KLM over AirTransat to get a better flight and some extra leg room. Price difference about $600 more on KLM....it wasn't worth it. Does anyone know why AC is not operating direct flights to AMS for the summer?
Guest rattler
Operating cost greater than revenue generated or so I would guess.
anonymous
Aside from the obvious expenses > revenue, there are no Star Alliance connections into/out of AMS, and that in a nutshell is why AC is not in AMS.
blues deville
I believe AC has Lufthansa thru FRA and BMI via LHR who are both Star Alliance but nothing better than that.
Fido
Probably 75% of the people flying into AMS are not going to Holland. The local market is small thus KLM were one of the first airlines to depend on onward connection traffic (followed by SQ and others).

anonymous
I was not clear....there aren't significant onward connections via Star Alliance into/out of AMS....

Hardly anyone showed up at the baggage area on the flight to AMS as they were travelling onwards.
blues deville
What's wrong with that? You are correct and it was actually two channels working......Country and Western...she was so lucky to have both forms of this music available. J.O.
Not sure if this applies to your wife, but if they had played some "Neil" on that country channel once in a while, I'm sure that you would have enjoyed the flight!
AME
I just returned home on KLM (LOS-AMS-YYC) and had a great experience, now if they were star I would request that routing every time. p.s. if you have a long connection I highly recommend Yotel http://www.yotel.com/
