So grateful that WJ is finally going to show the world how to properly do widebody flying.

I remember a certain now departed AC exec saying several years ago that the best thing WJ could do from AC's perpective was get widebodies. There is probably a grain of truth to that; overseas flying as dagger says introduces several dozen new variables. But there's also the macho boardroom bullshit angle that executives too frequently fall into what with their huge cocks sitting on the table all the time. Pardon my French.

Im glad to see that AC anticipated this move and rather than stupid old school posturing about some kind of superiority being derived from already doing this type of flying for 50-odd years, elected to actually mount a competitive response in advance with their own fleet of clapped out B767s, non-union labour, and "80% of the median" pay scales. Your playbook is well known by now, WJ.

If pre-empting LCC activity was as easy as taking the steps you describe, don't you think every legacy airline on the planet would have long since taken that step, thereby eradicating the so called "problem" years and years ago?

Thanks Bean. No argument; I know WJ wasn't big enough in the beginning to knock CDN out of the marketplace; at that time WJ was only out to grab the 'low hanging fruit' as you've previously described.

I wouldn't say eradicate so much as just compete with. The launch plan is no doubt altered by the presence of rouge 767s in a few dozen attractive cities. Makes it a little more difficult to find the low hanging fruit I'd say.

Maintenance will. :biggrin2: 767-300ERs can date back to the early 1980s.

The -300 entered Service in 1986 and the -300 ER entered service in 1988. Hardly the "Early" 80's.

International has so many layers of complexity: lounges, frequent flyer status, visa verification, let's remember to spray the cabin with insect repellent before landing in Oz :biggrin1:

refugees who flush their docs down the toilet before deplaning, expat employees and local hires, currency swings that can kill your margin after you've sold the seats, political upheaval, rumours of terrorists targeting western airlines, catering abroad, long crew layovers, offseason yields - or is WS just going to be flying seasonally to Europe some day? Baggage loss and retrieval is more complicated when it happens abroad, as opposed to at your own hub. Unexpected tech stops when the winds blow afoul. It's just so much fun.

WS has been operating to international destinations and dealing with these issues for more than a decade. The list of international countries is currently at 18 (going from memory) and as WS adds new longer range international destinations, they will continue to evolve to handle the complexities specific to each destination, but the things you note have already been experienced by WS many, many times before. Will there be some learning to be done, yes... but it's not like we're talking about a carrier (eg. like Southwest) that has never done international operations before.

Most of those countries don't have the internet yet. I say you aren't truly international unless you have to deal with volcano delays or French ATC strikes that strand hundreds of passengers and affect all airlines so that you can't even buy them space to get home on some one else's metal. Just you wait - so much fun ahead.
