Aircraft Maintenance Engineers and Skilled Trade Groups at Air Canada Seek Representation by AMFA

Hoping this goes through... The International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers has set back AMEs in Canada for too long.  Under the IAM, Aircraft Maintenance Engineers have seen their wage and benefits constantly eroded to a point where all the majors in Canada, now have more competitive salaries and conditions.  Within the present union structure and bargaining unit, Station Services represents 80% of the members. This results in the AME's and trades group having no agency in deciding what they want and need. The IAM having repeatedly refused to give the Maintenance group its own bargaining unit, a strong majority has decided try another path.

Well, the WestJet AME's have now filed with the CIRB for representation from AMFA. I know for sure that the WJ folks have been in constant, close communication with the AC folks on this. There has never been a better moment for the AC professionals to separate from the unskilled members of the IAM than now. I am 100% behind them!
