I too have no sympathy. Stupid is as stupid does. But like you say, Blues, some contract agency will turn a blind eye and he will work again.

Agreed.  The guy is not a Canadian citizen so putting him in jail serves no purpose - just wastes a bunch of money.  The guy committed a crime so I agree with the charges and conviction, now, shred his work visa and put him and the family on an airplane back to his home country.  As for treating the disease, sorry, not our problem.  I agree that he should seek treatment but not the Canadian tax-payers should pay for it.
