  1. Well ifyou were a retired old man, like me.......you would put your fingers to the keyboard and issue a severe "snot-gram" to Cathay with all the details including date, flight number etc etc......never know what will happen with a reply and if it is a "boiler plate" reply you have the satisfaction of knowing someone at the other end had to waste their time trying to appease you.....
  2. Needs an explanation......not happy with the pilots, the FAs, the check-in........whaaaaat ?????
  3. That Swiss Air DC3 is probably still flying,...somewhere
  4. Available at Walmart for around $15.00 Ear, Nose, and Whatever Guaranteed no cutting or pinching of the skin ..Tip is washable.......uses one small battery
  5. Here is One update MAR 2023....for Homeland Security USA TSA used to allows knives with blades that are 2.36 inches (6 cm) or less in length in carry-on. However, that is a thing of the past. Now they ban all knives in hand luggage and on your body. You can only check them in.Mar 31, 2023 Will TSA confiscate a Swiss Army knife? You can try, but your Swiss Army knife will be added to the collection of confiscated items by the TSA. You can put it in your luggage and check it thru, but otherwise it's a goner.May 29, 2023 TSA prohibits both domestic & international travelers from carrying any sharp objects in their carry-on or hand baggage. Any knives or other sharp objects must be sheathed or securely wrapped and stored in checked baggage to prevent injury to baggage handlers and inspectors.Dec 14, 2023
  6. If it is a " manufacturing problem" why has there not been a notice stating that all that type of door are being removed, and replaced.
  7. Now, what about the rest - even if they are legal - not a good idea. I totally agree however in and out of Canada blades of 6cm or less are allowed and according to TSA USA also allowed in USA. Now if the blade is 6cm or less but exceeds 1/2 inch in width, they are NOT allowed.. I thnk the Swiss Army knife has a lock-on permissable but I am pretty sure if TSA sees anything else, out comes the tape measure. Here is a good link with photos and explanations.. https://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2013/03/06/tsa-pocketknives/#:~:text=A knife is only allowed,a locking or fixed blade
  8. I must be missing the joke. There's no photo magic or manipulation. Sorry for the confusion...my excuse is being a super senior citizen..... No Joke, just my way of explaining I used a "different/unusual" program to take the photo and clarify the digital sequence and saw that each knife was a particular model and I cross referenced the Swiss Army knives with the producers of the knife and established that all knives had a blade of 6cm or less. When you get really old and pull the pin and have all the free time I have, in the "winter" you too can spend cold stormy days/nights finding all kinds of information that many feel does not exist on the Internet if you know where to get "special and unusual " programs. (My source is a retired RCMP fellow that I went to school with, and he was in the cyber/spooks section of the Force).
  9. Yup....a bit of "photo magic" re Seeker's post and the knife blades are all 6 cms ...or less. depending on the model.... so legal .....
  10. Has that not been pointed out to TSA ?? There must be an exception somewhere. In HFX, (as crew), I had my car keys taken because it had the remote start attached. Fortunately there was a maintenace tech there and he advised Security that he would put my keys in the Cargo Hold and I would get them back in YYZ. That seemed to appease the TSA agent. Prior to pushback the tech came into the flight deck and gave back my car keys.
  11. I'm not positive , but isn't anything bought in that store taken to the aircraft and the purchaser does not get the bag until arrival at destination.???
  12. I put the supersonic passenger aircraft in the same category as ..........another trip or two to the moon and finally a trip to Mars.... Waste of time, not to mention money...
  13. Donald served in the U.S. Navy as a nuclear trained submarine officer for almost 40 years before retiring in 2013. His last assignment was as the director of the Naval Nuclear Propulsion Program. Should do well ......as a submariner Is Boeing developing a Nuke seaplane ??
  14. The C5A (Galaxy), automatically weighs whatever steps on board . Had a tour of that one....called "The Aluminum Overcast" That was the first time I saw some "tape" displays, with old school instruments, in a cockpit and I would assume they are all "glass"now What was surprising was that graduate pilots from the Air Force Academy can get transfered to the C5 Squadron as their first flying tour. Was talking to an FE and he stated some of the landings and T/Os can be a bit scarey with the "newbee"aviators.. At my time the aircraft was being considered for the carriage aircraft for the Shuttle but I believe it was not selected due to the high T-Tail and NASA went for the 747.
  15. Back in '65 I was a brand new pilot at my first unit and flew the C-45, c-47, T-33 and htched rides in the CF100 and CF101. I was on a "mission" in the C-47 with a real old timer as Captain and we were over night in Yarmouth . The next morning we came out and there was ice on the wings... What to do?? The Captain tried to find deicing equipment but there was none to be had and all the services they had at Yarmouth was a barrel of deicer and pump hose with a 6 foot hose on the end but......it was broken. First we tried a rope, over and under the wing and tried to "saw" the ice off....did not work. Then the Captain gave me a garbage bag, said "Punch 3 holes through it, one for your head and two for your arms and put it on". We then took the barrel of fluid and tilted it and poured deicer fluid into those silver lids that were on metal garbage cans. We then backed up to the leading edge of the wings and threw the fluid over our heads and onto the wings and finally the tail. It worked and, as wet as we were, we fired up and flew back to home base. PS...That Captain retired with the most hours on a C-47 than anyone in the RCAF, and as a parting gift, the RCAF gave him a left seat out of a C-47.....(((A great guy and Iearned a lot about flying at 10,000ft and below, from him and he was the same pilot I was flying with in the story of the "Gooney Bird Corkscrew".)))
  16. I was told you guys got a bonus if you used excessive deice fluid.
  17. That is true.......but many think I am a relic and as one, I know I have problems almost everyday
  18. Yes, it seems when ancient craft hit the road something always goes wrong....sitting for as long as they do prior to "lift-off" is never good for any aircraft, especially ones that are basically relics
