  1. Seeker.. I respect your comments and thank you for the time you took to post your opinion. Yes, I am biased....and thanks also for formulating a poll. As an aside, I get all my political information from two newspapers, CNN , CBC, Global and CTV but I must admit I do so very infrequently..... and don't want to waste my time engaging in political repartee . Don't like what we see, or what we have ?....go vote.....you can't change much by hollering at the clouds.. Anyhow, not sure if this has been posted.......we all probably know about ArriveCan app but did you know about the app titled MPC It is an app applicable to US and CDN citizens ENTERING the USA.... Certainly saves time with US Customs and is available for Apple users but not sure about Androids. Be safe.
  2. AEF has been around a long time and I am probably one of the few that are still on this forum...In its infancy the topic covered was AVIATION in the airline world, and ,yes, the scope broadened, we started to see members from other countries adding information, much of which enlightened those of in the industry. Many realistic and true accident reports involving aircraft were posted and created hearty conversation about all aspects of aviation from pilots to cabin crew to those pesky ground crew that kept us safe in the air...POVs were shared and again we all learned something when we delved into other folk's opinions....it was a learning tool that we all respected and although opinions may have differed it was all food for thought. Then Military aviation crept in and there was no outcry because the topic was AVIATION and lets face it, many airline members are/were exMilitary members both in the air and on the ground. The point I would like to make is I WISH that forum attached to this AIRLINE WEBSITE .......Non Aviation Discussion Forum was not attached to the AIRLINEWEBSITE.COM.........and the reason ??? Politics seems to be the "go-to" in that forum and heated discussions always creep in and as a result we, as moderators, are more frequently attending to reports filed by a person , or in some cases, many persons who feel a post is not within the social and acceptable limits we have set in this forum. Personally and bear in mind this is just my opinion, not that of the owner.operator of the Airline website, I would like to see that "political or other stuff " forum removed. There are so many other forums that carry other topics, including political POVs in fact all news papers and well known TV channels carry forums so , yes, I would like to prune this forum and MAINLY stick to aviation...... with ocassional whisps of NOT REALLY aviation but tolerable posts...........kick the politics ((Non Aviation Discussion Forum)) to the curb.
  3. Why the fly by ??? I honestly don't know but am guessing the "missing" kids thing ???? Yes, political correctness has run amuck.... Why just the other day, on one of our main streets in "Dotville" I reported a "person hole cover" as being askew and requested that a city employee get it back in place and then went home and read my outboard engine personual to find out why engine was lacking full power........and had a cool drink of my favourite juice, "persongo"...
  4. No need to mod..... Could've just shot the fire out
  5. Never flew it so not familiar with the after landing procedure but , I too , noted he let go of everything just after landing. Thought perhaps it was SOP for that company...FO takes it automatically ???
  6. 17.8 hours in 413 of which 3.1 were nite.....loved those birds, 1983.3 hrs in the T-33 Lots of fun memories and sad days when we lost a few drivers. Lost two on our 4th wedding anniversary....It was a "check" ride and the "checkee" and his wife played cards with us the evening before.
  7. You notice just seconds before landing his left elbow went inside the arm rest ??? If there was a really strong cross wind or gusty conditions he might have had to put in more left aileron and in my case I don't want that arm rest in my way.... I guess a lot depends on arm length, and seat position and just personal preference....This Captain was on a 747-400 so probably needed to rest his arm due to exhaustion from carrying his wallet around
  8. Thanks for posting What I found a bit unusual was the Captain flying the approach with his left elbow on the arm rest.....there is no way I could do it that way......want both arms free to flail about should things go south any time during the final phase of flight. Pilots.......we all have idiosyncrasies,..... I guess
  9. Thank you for the kind words, MTL, and in aviation it has been a strange but wonderful career 01 Year RCN 27 Years RCAF 15 Years Commercial...WD, CP, AC Was happy going to work everyday........ if I could hear music and have a laugh The boat was the icing on the cake and have been driving that for 25+ year I have not one complaint...life is slower but still..... oh so good !!
  10. Yes they do, but there are isolated instances where they have failed to deploy..... In this case there are so many possible scenarios ....for example here is one.... Crew passes out while attempting to trouble shoot pressurization problem and failed to put on masks or at least "emergency descent"...Passengers have O2 masks and feel crew knows what is going on and do nothing or realize there is a big problem...but are not able to recover aircraft. Very sad situation and the only clue available is that they said "they had a pressurization problem"........without a mask on very quickly.......well we all know what happens.
  11. Well the boat is back home, and the summer, as far as the weather was concerned, can be rated as a 6 out of 10. Lots of wind, lots of rain and few really hot days.......but still it was enjoyable A buddy who owns a sailboat and myself were asked by USA folks to look after their island, (Private Island in 1000 Islands Park), because they were unable to get up to Canada, (COVID and health problems..... so for the past two years we have always had a dock to go to) In any National Park the operation of drones is prohibited unless authorized by the Park superintendent. My case was a little unusual. The island we were on was about 75 feet away for a National Park island and as such I could fly my drones but boaters that docked on the Park Island could not fly theirs...unless they took their boat out and launched and recovered on their boat. Anyhow, some good video was acquired even though the RCMP patrol boat did stop and ask to see my operating licences. My son is an avid mountain climber, in fact he proposed to his wife 16 years ago atop Mt DENALI, the highest mountailn in North America. Recently he sent me a link of drone footage of Mount Everest and I was surprised they were using the same brand of drone that I have but one model above mine... I have included a link and as you view it you will see many parts of the video being rather short as they switch from one scene to another.....The reason is that most DJI drones are limited to 25-35 minutes of air time due to the battery but when you consider the temperature on Everest you can understand why the drone battery did not last very long. I thanked my son for sending the video and said, " don't even think of Everest" and he replied " He would give it a go if someone else paid for the adventure !!! " https://www.adventure-journal.com/2022/08/spellbinding-drone-footage-over-everest/
  12. I think the camera work would have been better if it was a test...Go to YouTube and read the comments...interesting (how true?) comments there
  13. Thunder Air - Serving Thunder Bay, Timmins and Northern ... http://www.thunderair.com Thunder Airlines operates scheduled flights seven days a week in Northern Ontario along the James Bay coast. Timmins, Moosonee, Fort Albany, Kashechewan and . I think Perimeter Airlines used the Metro
  14. I'd rather paddle .. I remember decades ago watching a beautiful cruiser going across the Bay of Quinte, the vessel was about 40-45 feet long. I causally asked the guy I was with, "I wonder how many miles to the gallon he gets?" His reply was, " If that is your biggest concern, you can't afford the boat" He was/is correct,
  15. I can remember a search we did, (Halifax RCC), and we found a light twin about 10 miles from the point of departure and the only reason a tasked C-130 found it was that an eagle eyed spotter at one of the side doors spotted a small part of the vertical stab, (white), that was stuck on the top of a tree in a heavily wooded area. Aircraft that go down in a wooded area are hard to find because they normally don't do much damage to the trees and the trees just snap back upright once the aircraft has penetrated the trees. There was an awful lot of aircraft, and man power expended on the posted search and thee comes a time where the RCC has to downgrade the search and hand it over to the police, (Land search) Had a single engine go down in the bay of Fundy...Boaters saw it go down about 4 miles off shore. Got to the wreckage but no one in it. Just a pile of neatly folded clothes. Body was found about 6 months later in a wooded area by a hunter, about 4 miles inland. Not a schred of clothing on the remains...Verdict= suicide
  16. That pilot had previous problems and should have been grounded prior to this accident. I read the indepth investigation while stationed in the USA..........every once in awhile a flyer slips through the cracks.... and there has been others and will be others...fact of life
  17. Hello WD......Yes sir, you guys at WD will maintain the WD brand and carry on as usual and we will have two separate airlines under the Canadian Airlines International banner.......and won't we have fun.....????
  18. I guess those of us who were born when the earth was cooling , got through school, took up flying for decades, and never heard the word "depression" in the present context were pretty lucky. I had come off jets and was on the Cosmo, (CV580), in Trenton and was not fully aware that when you retarded the thrust levers prior to flaring you had 16 speed brakes out on the wings so my first "arrival" was rather hard. I tried to make light of it by saying " that must have left a small "depression" on the runway " to which my instructor replied, "more than likely a crater".
  19. I was going back and forth over the puddle when we went to GREEN... In Ireland, at the airport, a lady came up to me and asked what she could bring back to Ireland duty free. I was also doing a lot of transport to and from YOW and Downsview during the CNE...we were in a pretty nice hotel in YYZ when we happened to see a two star be approached by a lady and he was asked to get her car to the front door as soon as possible....I have never heard a general officer use such language with a civilian.......suffice to say he was really POed and part of his answer was "Do I look like a fu*#en door-man to you ??" Well in greens I guess we sorta did...until people got used to it...Thank goodness BLUE came back.
  20. Indeed, a good app but for those that are not that computer savvy, sending a text message with CLICK my flight number would be much easier and gives the recipient enough info to know what is "supposed" to happen .
  21. Thanks but it doesn't show how much AV gas has increased...need a baseline for example, 01 March 2022 In my area, road gas has increased about 65%, since 01 March 2022 .......what is happening with AV gas ???
  22. Not sure if this works for different types of cell phones but if you want to see, or send to a friend, your flight info, including a map, merely send yourself, or a contact, the flight number in this format via text message . I'm using an iPhone 11 For Air Canada flight 604 YYZ-YHZ on 27 May, in the morning, you would enter in the text message AC604 When you, or the recipient receives the text message and clicks on AC604 this what they will see
  23. We have all seen gas prices at the pump escalate but we hear nothing about AV gas....... Normally we hear that ticket prices are going up when gas goes up, especially at the rate we are seeing to-day, or does the price of "road" gas have no effect on the price of AV gas ??
