beaverboy
Anyone care to provide a link to where this comment came from. Press Releases/Communiqués de presse FOR: WESTJET TSX SYMBOL: WJA WestJet Responds to Air Canada's Motion to Amend its Statement of Claim NOVEMBER 5, 2004 - 19:18:31 ET CALGARY, ALBERTA--(CCNMatthews - Nov. 5, 2004) - WestJet has received a motion by Air Canada to amend its Statement of Claim. Air Canada's motion proposes to significantly narrow its damages claim and to remove from its Statement of Claim the claims for damages for intentional interference with economic relations, breach of confidence, breach of contract and breach of fiduciary duty. Air Canada also proposes to abandon its claim for loss of goodwill. In its Statement of Defence, WestJet states the information on the Air Canada employee website is not confidential and in fact is available to the public through many sources, including counting passengers at airports and other public websites. WestJet states that losses Air Canada has claimed arise not from any use of information on the website, but from Air Canada's mismanagement of its business, its decision to persist in selling seats on flights for less than cost, its high-cost structure and the poor treatment of its customers. The motion also seeks to add five individual WestJetters as Defendants. This confirms what WestJet has always known, that Air Canada's real motive in its lawsuit is not to recover damages but to distract the market and discredit WestJet and individual WestJetters through the Court process. It is WestJet's view that Air Canada's claim against WestJet and these individuals is ill founded and will not succeed. WestJet fully supports those named in this Amended Statement of Claim and will defend these claims vigorously on their behalf. WestJet is publicly traded on the Toronto Stock Exchange under the symbol WJA. Yes, check out Globe and Mail article published this morning. Much different look at things. Maybe when Clive offers his redignation this time, it will be with some feeling and sincerity. Mitch Cronin
Globe article None of what I've read anywhere, other than the WJ release, so far has any indication that the suit has been "narrowed" and items dropped? Is WJ just adding spin to make it look better, or are they zeroing in on what they consider as being most significant, that others -for their own spin- aren't bothering to report? It's hard to imagine any newspapers "spinning" things in AC's favour!? Not used to that at all!
Dropzone
Is WJ just adding spin to make it look better, Rather than deal with this quickly and smartly WJ has chosen the opposite path. The damage continues to mount.
ChicoChico
Mitch et al, Look at the title to this thread - spun the WJ way as well! This is NOT good news for WJ - quite the contrary. Read some of the published evidence. Its the smoking gun. Chico
