Guest
CANADIAN AVIATION NEWS CANADIAN AIRLINE AND INDUSTRY NEWS Porter Airlines announces new restart date of Aug. 31 29 June 2020Canadian Aviation News From Porter Airlines TORONTO, June 29, 2020 /CNW/ – Porter Airlines is modifying its return-to-service date in light of ongoing government travel restrictions. The new restart date is Aug. 31, instead of the previously-announced target of July 29. “Our ability to successfully relaunch service is directly tied to the lifting of travel restrictions,” said Michael Deluce, president and CEO, Porter Airlines. “We believe it is getting closer to a time when people can travel more freely and are optimistic that key border closures and mandatory quarantines will begin easing, so that we can recommence operations.” Details on Porter’s new Healthy Flights program, designed to keep both passengers and team members safe, will be shared in the coming weeks. To provide flexibility and give travellers peace of mind when purchasing for future travel, Porter is waiving change and cancellation fees on all fares booked between today and Aug. 31. This also applies to Porter Escapes vacation packages. Porter temporarily suspended operations as of March 21, due to increasingly-restrictive government travel limitations associated with COVID-19. Guest
Porter Airlines updates restart date to November 12 8 September 2020Canadian Aviation News TORONTO, Sept. 8, 2020 /CNW/ – Porter Airlines is updating its return-to-service date to Nov. 12, from the previously-announced target of Oct. 7. The quarantine period for travellers entering or returning to Canada was recently extended. This, along with the continued closure of the Canada-U.S. border and Atlantic Canada travel bubble, are key factors in the decision to extend the restart date. “Every one of our markets is affected by the Canadian government’s non-essential travel advisory and border closures,” said Michael Deluce, president and CEO, Porter Airlines. “We understand the impact this has on our passengers and our team members, and continue to make decisions based on how the situation evolves.” Porter is waiving change and cancellation fees on all fares booked through November 12, including Porter Escapes vacation packages. Porter temporarily suspended operations as of March 21, due to COVID-19. Share this:

That’s why anybody would have been crazy to book any Xmas travel in Porter. that would seem to apply to most other carriers in Canada. The situation remains fluid as recent cancellations would seem to indicate. Quote Air Canada cut more than 27,000 flights, or 70 per cent, from its November schedule between Sept. 25 and Oct. 9, according to figures from aviation data firm Cirium. It cut another 2,000 by the end of October. WestJet, which recently began to offer refunds for cancelled flights, in contrast to its competitors, slashed its November schedule by about 12,400 flights, or 68 per cent, in one week last month. Air Transat scrapped 63 per cent of its flights for November in the same week, leaving it with 123 — down to 100 as of last week. Kip Powick
Personally, I'd rather bite the bullet and not go anywhere on Xmas as I can just imagine the time and headaches one will have to endure having to fly anywhere. So you miss Christmas with friends and, in particular, relatives. Humans are a hardy bunch, its not like the first time we have been held back from favourite day visitations....think about WW2 and then Afghanistan. Think how great summer vacation will be, should this COVID issue slow to a dribble. As far as jobs , security and wages go,.........well that is where emotions run high and I can understand that and I sympathize with those that are having their dreams crushed and possibly put on hold for quite some time. I know it is, and will be hard, for those that are already moving in that direction so I can only offer one friendly piece of advice....... Look around and not far from you, you will always see people that are in a worse situation ....... than what you are presently enduring. Have faith and if you have your health, and a loving family, you have a lot more than many folks out there. Be safe
