The Katcam - looking over the Burrard Bridge to English Bay

Doesn't look so good out there today.... ph34r.gif

Purloined from elsewhere:

You know you're from Vancouver if you ...

Feel guilty throwing aluminum cans or paper in the trash.

Use the expression: "sunny break" and know what it means.

Know more than 10 ways to order coffee.

Know more people who own boats than air conditioners.

Feel overdressed wearing a suit to a nice restaurant.

Stand on a deserted corner in the rain waiting for the "Walk" signal.

Consider that if it has no snow or has not recently erupted, it's

not a real mountain.

Complain about Torontonians, as you sell your house for twice its

value to one.

Know the difference between Chinook, Coho and Sockeye salmon.

Know how to pronounce Tsawwassen.

*** Here I want to interrupt... I recall being told by a Tsawwassen resident, who claimed to have the straight dope from BC Native folk (Haida?) that it is properly pronounced Sawwassen (silent T)... Yet almost everyone I encounter pronounces it Tawwassen (silent S)... so what's the truth?? Hmmm?

Consider swimming an indoor sport.

Can tell the difference between Japanese, Chinese and Thai food.

Obey all traffic laws except "Keep right except to pass."

Are not fazed by "Today's forecast: showers followed by rain" and

"Tomorrow's forecast: rain followed by showers."

Can't wait for a day with "Showers and sunny breaks."

Have no concept of humidity without precipitation.

Say "the mountains are out" when it's a pretty day and you can

actually see them.

Put on shorts when the temperature gets above 50, but still wear

hiking boots and Gortex.

Have actually used your mountain bike on a mountain.

Think people who use umbrellas are either wimps or tourists.

You buy new sunglasses every year, because you can't find the old

ones after such a long time.

Hey Mitch,

Having grown up in Vancouver I'd have to say "guilty on all counts."

I dunno about that picture tho. Except for the fact that there's a large body of water in it, that could be Calgary for the last week. Where the hell did summer go?? sad.gif

Well Mitch, for what it's worth.........

I grew up in S. Ontario, moved to Vancouver in the early 90's, returned back to Toronto in 2000 to care for a sick mom. When we got back to Toronto I said "I'm never moving back". Not just once but I said it to anybody who would listen. Four years later, now with 2 kids in tow (we left Vancouver as DINKS), neither myself nor my wife could "take it any more", packed up our stuff and now live back in "sunny" Vancouver. It has cost a "medium sized fortune" to do it and I am now a commuter but we are incredibly happy to be back.

I would never say that it's for everybody but those who "love it", really love it. cool26.gif

Hey Mitch ...

The Katkam is actually mounted in the building right beside mine. Here's a pic I took from my balcony a little while ago that is more in keeping with summer in Van than today's katkam. Just add a few frosties, a couple of steaks on the barbie and a wee dram at sunset and you have instant paradise!

As cities that I've seen go (admittedly not that many), Vancouver is a fine one... (especially compared to Toronto!) Incredibly beautiful on clear days, and filled with some pretty interesting and friendly people.

I just dislike cities altogether... Almost any time I've been in Vancouver, I've been in a hurry to get out. Either to dear old Sunny SSI, or on my way back out to this neck of the woods...

My favorite thing about YVR is the little Beavers on floats that fly out of the Flying Beaver and can take you to Salt Spring in about fifteen to twenty minutes. smile.gif
