You do have to wonder why / how it ended up using CYXU which does seem to be quite a distance from the normal track.

2015-Dec-14 B737/Q London Int'l (London) (CYXU) Hollywood Int'l (KFLL) 01:04PM EST 03:47PM EST 2:43 2015-Dec-14 B737/L Montreal-Trudeau (CYUL) London Int'l (London) (CYXU) 08:36AM EST 10:18AM EST 1:41

Here is a link to what seems to be the normal route: http://flightaware.com/live/flight/WJA1054/history/20151215/1215Z/CYUL/KFLL

For some reason Flightaware is not showing the actual route flown or the planned route. However using the playback feature on Flightradar24 you can follow the flight from departure in YUL to arrival into YXU.

You can see the flight following the standard route over ALB (Albany) then around 40 miles south of Albany turns direct to YXU. It's noted the highest the aircraft climbs after departing YUL is FL280.

There are LiveATC radios that cover this area, listening to the archives during this time you can hear the flight discussing that they have an ALT DISAGREE indication and are running the checklist and talking to operations. You can hear the flight making the turn direct to YXU. When the controller asks if they can provide any more assistance they reply that they are not able RVSM and going to Canada to get it fixed with no futher assistance required.

The ALT DISAGEE alert (Altitude Disagree) indicates there is at least a 200 foot discrepancy between the Captain and FO's altimeters. Highlights of the checklist include, airplane does not meet RVSM airspace requirements, standby altimeter is available, transponder altitude received by ATC may be unreliable, maintain visual conditions if possible, establish landing configuration early, radio altitude reference is available below 2,500 feet, use electronic and visual glideslope indicators, where available, for approach and landing.

At the time the weather in YYZ was 4SM BR OVC003 while over in YXU it was 15SM FEW080 SCT150 BKN230, which explains the choice of destination for the diversion.

So why choose YXU over YYZ? Would that be due to the possibility of the altitude reporting being out? Seems like there would be more technical support in YYZ.
