boestar
Well if he was a Licensed balloon pilot and this was "Experimental" would he be charged still. The only crime would then be abandoning the aircraft and causing danger to aircraft.

The only crime would then be abandoning the aircraft and causing danger to aircraft. No it wasn't, no he evidently isn't, and dosen't a hot air balloon require some sort of clearance when flying near flight paths? So I imagine next he will be charged with some aviation related charges. The launch was after 7pm and just imagine the surprise the balloons complete with lawn chairs might have been to an aircraft in the vicinity? J.O.
Even experimental balloons are subject to registration and inspection requirements.
Moon The Loon
I still have a problem with charging someone with "stupid" under the Criminal Code of Canada. Mischief, OK.Wouldn't it have been more prudent to just send a few bb's his way?[...somewhat tongue in cheek...]

John S.
Perhaps he can auction off the char and two remaining balloons and use the money to buy some safer advertising.
Moon The Loon
And what if the balloons had carried the chair into the path of an aircraft???? Thankfully, this time, it didn't. "Stupid" didn't become criminal. But your point is taken
