Cuddling up to a B777

From today's CADORs report:

The Cessna 172 was taxiing at CYUL to take off from Runway 06R. When approaching the Runway 06R holding bay, the Cessna 172 was authorized to go behind a Boeing 777 that was stopped on the left side of the holding bay with the engines at idle. When the Cessna was behind the Boeing 777, its left wing and tail were lifted up so that the propeller and right wing struck the ground before the aircraft returned to its normal position. The pilot informed the apron controller and returned to his parking spot to assess the damage. The right wing, engine cowl, and propeller were damaged. The pilot, alone on board, was not injured.

Those 115's on the ER probably pump out 5000 pounds each at ground idle. What was this guying thinking? ohmy.gif

What was this guying thinking?

That's just it... he probably wasn't icon_eek.gif

In all fairness, it's possible he just never spent any time behind a big airplane and paid the price for getting to close. I am sure it won't happen to him again.

Luckily he was not injured as I recall a video showing a truck or car.. can't remember... being blown away behind a jet engine running at full power. Great tool for learning the dangers of expanding exhaust gases laugh.gif

Hey CD

Excellent examples.

You have to wonder about the poor F-16 driver though. It just looks like no one really cares much about him.... even the camera guy is more interested in getting the takeoff rolls of the B-1's laugh.gif

Many years ago when I was working out of YXU, one of the flying schools was hosting a gaggle of air cadets getting their PPL training. One of the lads taxied out for takeoff behind a Convair 580. They were holding short and the tower called the Convair crew and asked if they were able an immediate takeoff. They said yes and were cleared for takeoff with traffic on a 2 mile final. The Convair crew, not knowing that the C152 was parked close behind, opened the taps and the C150 flipped straight over on its back. Thankfully the air cadet was uninjured. The airplane didn't get off so lucky.
