    I was ready for the impact so was not injured but it was quite a hit.  I imagine the GSE guys were none too happy.  I don't remember if they fixed it or scrapped it.  There was no timmies close by back in those days

Many moons ago in YYZ I destroyed the front end of a pickup truck preventing just such an incident.  A string of carts had let loose and were heading for a DC-9 at a good pace.  I was in the right place at the right time and put the fender in the path.  Quite a ride and significant damage.  better a pickup than a plane

    We are eliminating what I always referred to a passive communication.

    several years  ago they took our position out of the STOC center and moved them to a remote location.  Something I always disagreed with.  When sitting tn the STOC center you could hear what was going on with all aspects of the operation.  This came in handy when Maintenance was being blamed for a delay.  It was easy to protest on the spot and clear things up.  This resulted in an increase of delays due to maintenance after our guys were removed.  That is only a single example of the passive communication that goes on.  There is a disconnect when working remotely.  I am currently working remote and while I love the commute, I do not feel in tune with the whole operation.

    Based on my experience in SAR (RCC HFX) the biggest problem is the reluctance of persons to carry PLB because of the human tendency to disregard the possibility of requiring help, (I'm never gonna get lost, I'll never have a problem where I am going etc) In addition is the cost of acquiring a beacon, they are relatively expensive, $200.00-$500.00 depending on what features you want. Today most people feel a cellphone  has everything they want and feel with a cell phone the individual requiring assistance can get to someone no matter where they are, and that is just not true. 

    While most commercial boats carry some kind of ELT , the emphasis on "most".....again is not true and once again cost becomes the hurtle. Canadian recreational aircraft are required to carry and ELT but the old version, 121.5MHz, is being phased out and 406 MHz will be mandatory by 2024. (The 121.5 were very limited in range and would only be picked up if activated and someone was looking for the aircraft...(not satellite receivable).

    My middle son and his wife are life long mountain climbers/skiers and they  BOTH carry PLBs. 

    If you are inclined to trek about in the wilderness, climbing and skiing, what price would you put on your personal safety should you require immediate help??

    Someone I ride with was recently on a solo adventure ride on the Gaspe peninsula.  She ended up stranded hours from anywhere and realized, after trying for a long time to get out, that she needed Help.  She hit the little SOS button on her Garmin Locator and within a couple of hours help arrived and got her and her bike to safety.  If you do anything at all "off the beaten path" the locators are invaluable.

    Or in laymans terms 737 Good please buy cheap plane.

    In Ontario, as well as other places in Canada the subsidies have ceased for Electric vehicles and yet sales show an increase year over year. the only subsidy you can get now for an EV is up to $1000 towards installation of a Level 2 Charger but ONLY if it works with a vehicle for which the earlier subsidy applied.

  7. This is Boeing trying to do the cheapest possible upgrades and still gain certification based on the original Type Certificate.

    The 737 is the most bastardized aircraft in existence.  There is no proper systems integration that would even allow for a robust EICAS system that met todays standards.  

    There is still steam flowing through that airframe and the smoke still keeps the boxes running.

    It's time for it to die.

     

     

  8. I always love these stories becaue you just know some MBA in an office with a window crunched some numbers.  Problem is its usually the wrong numbers.

    The projects were budgeted for years in advance and contracts signed to carry out the work.  NOW is the best time to perform it.  There is nothing to get in the way.  Shutting things down causes less disrupotion because there are fewer passengers.  Air travel will return eventually.  Get the big stuff out of the way now so its ready.

    I was a Alpha tester on the program.

    The visuals are Quite Spectacular.  There are still quite a few bugs that need to be remedied but over all it is far ahead of anything else out there.

    I am runing a Ryzen 7 3800X  with 32 GB ram and an RX5700XT Video Card.  Application is running off of an NvME SSD via PCIe4.0.

    I hit 50-60 FPS flying and 30-40 on the ground at a large airport.  MS has some optimization to do yet.

    I am running a triple monitor 23" setup.
