I'm not sure who, other than the press, call MCAS a stall prevention device....it's purpose (according to a Boeing test pilot who was at a presentation I attended) was to ensure similar handling characteristics with the 737 NG....to maintain a common type rating.... nothing else.

By pushing the nose down in response to certain power inputs.  Thus lowering the nose to a lower AOA to PREVENT A STALL.

  2. Just a thought.

Why would Boeing not just used something similar to a stick pusher to lower the nose in these cases.  Use the Elevators rather than the trim.  When the system intervenes and lowers the nose there would be visual feedback in the column and the pilot could then re trim the aircraft.  Many aircraft use the system for impending stall recovery already.

I suppose that would have led to more training for the pilots which is what they were trying to avoid.

    Just a random morning thought

I’m looking forward to reading about these “missteps” by Maintenance that contributed to the crash.

if you look back to the initial reports The aircraft had several flights with air data issues and mismatches.  These anomolies were apparently not addressed correctly.  This does however remain to be seen in the final reports.

  4. Thats more than preservation.  I used to love doing the initial starts on the Global Express with brand new from the factory engines.  They would smoke the place out every time.  That may have been a preserved engine combined with a wet start and it sounded like he was far too early with the fuel.

  5. Spend the money on getting Viking to build some new Buffalo aircraft for the SAR role.  Add some decent helicopters to that mix.

Build some proper coast guard cutters and also equip the coast guard with helos.

Tack on a fleet of C-17 type aircraft and a few C5 size birds for heavy lift transport

Then keep a minimal fleet of fighters for escort roles.

  6. The point is if a pilot moves he goes back to the bottom, Experience be damned.  A principal changes jobs and either gets a raise or its a lateral move.  This is what Union seniority does for you.  It removes the "Professional" from you career and makes it a union "JOB"
