We made it through OK. The power went out where we live just after midnite. The laptop battery is charged and the phone lines still work and if I have to I can charge it in the car. I guess we'll be having a BBQ for breakfast once I untie the "Q" from the deck. The trees that the canoe was tied to still seem to be there so I guess the canoe is fine too.

We are about 30nm NW of the city and from here it really just seemed like your average Maritime storm. Here's the latest from env Canada:

AT 6.00 AM ADT... TROPICAL STORM JUAN WAS LOCATED NEAR LATITUDE

48.0 N AND LONGITUDE 62.5 W... ABOUT 90 NAUTICAL MILES OR 165 KM

EAST SOUTHEAST OF GASPE.

JUAN MOVED THROUGH THE HALIFAX AREA SHORTLY AFTER MIDNIGHT. AT LEAST

ONE FATALITY WAS REPORTED. SOME BUILDINGS SUFFERED STRUCTURAL DAMAGE.

THERE WERE WIDESPREAD POWER OUTAGES AND NUMEROUS FALLEN TREE LIMBS.

WIND GUSTS TO 143 KM/H WERE REPORTED AT HALIFAX INTERNATIONAL

AIRPORT. IT STILL PACKED WINDS GUSTING TO 139 KM/H AS IT PASSED WEST

OF CHARLOTTETOWN SHORTLY AFTER 3 AM ADT.

JUAN IS MOVING TOWARDS THE NORTH AT 40 KNOTS... 74 KM/H. MAXIMUM

SUSTAINED WINDS ARE ESTIMATED AT 55 KNOTS... 102 KM/H AND CENTRAL

PRESSURE AT 997 MB.

HALIFAX (CP) -- Dazed residents wandered streets strewn with pulverized trees and downed power lines as the cleanup began Monday from the fiercest hurricane to hit Canada in years.

In many neighbourhoods, the scene was more like a jungle than a modern urban setting as felled branches blocked roads and giant trees wrenched from the ground leaned against houses. Everywhere, wet leaves plastered cars and buildings like splattered paint
