Guest mars
The phonetic alphabet has it's roots in Royal Navy signal flags and the eventual International Code of Signals for ships. These came together with morse code and later with wireless (radio) to require a spoken form to descibe each letter when used in plain text. Along with ChicoChico's excellent suggestion try www.fotw.ca/flags/flag-ics.html#ICS www.fotw.ca/flags/flag-ics.html#ICS www.fotw.ca/flags/flag-ics.html#ICS
