David Legge, Senior VP Operations at Air Canada has just bought 44,000 shares of ac.b with his own money.

Insider buying is usually viewed as a positive sign for shareholders however this might be taken with a grain of salt because David Legge is also a pilot. When the CFO and CEO start using their own money to purchase shares on the open market then I will get excited. Or rather, should I be scared because as has been proven at AC time and again, what is good for shareholders is rarely good for employees. I cynically take this as an expression of confidence in AC being handed the outcome they desire by arbitrator Stanley and the Conservatives.

Must be nice to have $40K lying around to speculate on airline stock but hey I guess if you make over $1M/year then its a bit easier to come by.

Well, if crude keeps falling faster than the Canadian dollar and loads/yields remain decent, Air Canada's middle quarters should be reasonably positive. The question is whether the C$ catches up with oil, or whether oil keeps heading lower faster.

In the first quarter, spot jet averaged about C$3.20 per US Gallon

Today, after a tremendous decline in May, spot jet is about C$2.86 per US Gallon

These graphs show just how much jet prices around the world have declined, and how fast.

I think the airlines would be thrilled if jet and the dollar decline in equal measures from here on in, so long as the C$ doesn't break 90 cents US, but then again, at 90 cents US, which is really 88 US cents to the C$ on a credit charge, some of those people driving south to fly are going to see disadvantage in doing that and either not fly or fly from a Canadian airport.

Right now, even the Euro has rallied a bit against the C$...
