Calgary FA
Just heard from an AC pilot that Zip will be getting the 319's by July. Talked to a different AC pilot the same day and he said that Zip will be closing down by year's end. Any A319 pilot's planning on working at Zip? Guest Code Red
This is only someone’s opinion. I don’t doubt that it may come to be, but at this time it is only talk. It would require a change to our contract so this is not something that will just happen overnight.
Johnny
The rumour is pretty strong. The existing 737 pilots will be trained on the 319. Unless it is an open bid. Rumours include closing EG, opening WG or all the jobs come to YVR. More rumours to come.
Guest directlaw
The collective agreement reads Zip can fly Narrow Jet aircraft that do not exceed the gross takeoff weight of a 737-700. The definition of a NJ aircraft is between 90 and 220 max cert. seating capacity. I don't think any language change is required.
rudder
This is great news! The only thing better than flying a 120-seat B737 around half empty is to fly a 140-seat A319 around two thirds empty! Unless this is a signal from AC that a significant portion of the current 2-class domestic point-to-point service is being converted to 'ZIP' style, then it is just another way to lose money. I am sure that CUPE will be reticent to convert it's 'A-scale' jobs at AC to 'B-scale' jobs at ZIP. Also, don't forget that the CUPE contract precludes 2-class service at ZIP.
