Guest pitstacker
Just wanting to point out an error in the National Post article about the 319 into YLW. The author states the incident took place at 1900pm. This is not true. The incident took place at 1911Z or 12:11pm local Kelowna time. Also, that day wasn't as smoky as it had been the previous 2 days. Anyone have the METAR for that hour? Also, I could be wrong but, just because the ILS approach into YLW was not allowed at that time, doesn't mean that the loc and g/s weren't working. The approach was prohibited because the missed approach course would have taken you right through the fire area. Can one not use the ILS for reference, staying VFR at all times?? This would seem like common sense to me.
RussD
Twas a beautiful clear summer day when we departed YLW @ 1330 on the 23rd. All nav and approach aids were in the green.
