Guest Dash eight
With a unservicable APU is it still possible to operate the aircrafts own airstairs? or are they operated by power from the apu??

Guest Spectator
Yes,they can be operated without A.C. power, there is a standby provision which powers them from the ship's battery.
Databus
737-200 forward airstairs main AC motor receives power from #2 115Vac main bus. That bus can be powered from the APU, #2 engine or ground power. The standby motor receives power from the Bat Bus and DC Bus 1. There is a spring loaded "off" switch on the exterior of the A/C that turns on the Bat bus to operate the airstairs if there is no AC pwr avail. Aft airstairs on freighters are similiar. Guest Dash eight
The airstairs would not operate with ground power hooked up does the captain have to switch over supply in the cockpit?
Guest Way To Go
The ground power not only has to be hooked up but needs to be turned on in the flight deck. Also the main battery needs to be turned on as well. In standby mode, as long as the battery is sufficiently charged it will always work, but be warned standby mode bypasses all the interlock safety switches...not a pretty sight if something is amiss...If standby mode did not work for you, maybe your particular 737 has a fault or has a wiring mod caried out. Bring some climbing equipment...!
