US age 60 rule under attack (again)

The U. S. Senate is expected to take up S. 824, the FAA Reauthorization Bill, in the next few days. During consideration of that bill on the Senate floor, Republican Senator Jim Inhofe from Oklahoma will offer an amendment to repeal the Age 60 Rule. The Inhofe Amendment would immediately increase the retirement age to 63, opening the way for retired pilots, age 63 or less, to return to the cockpit. Thereafter, the retirement age would be increased to 66.

Many Pilots are naturally concerned about the effects that repeal of the Age 60 Rule, as proposed in the Inhofe Amendment, would have on their career expectations. For the nearly 14,000 (10,000 ALPA) pilots who are on furlough, passage of this legislation could extend their period of unemployment. For those of you who are looking forward to retirement in the next few years, it could result in changes in your retirement plans and benefits.

It is imperative that all pilots -- particularly those who are furloughed and will be among the first to be impacted if this proposed change in the retirement age is approved -- contact your U.S. Senators immediately to urge them to vote against the Inhofe Amendment. Your elected Senators need to hear from you -- their constituents -- about your strong feeling on this important matter and how it will adversely affect your career as a pilot.

Please be sure to do it right away! Your grassroots action today could mean a more secure job for you in the months and years ahead.

Nope. Let's not forget how much was handed to Clive on a silver platter! He was virtually given the most qualified bunch of 737 maintenance folk on the planet, he found himself sitting extremely pretty as the only western competitor, and soon, almost the ONLY competitor to the country's most hated ex-government, bloated and arrogant entity.

No, Clive doesn't look so great for thriving in that cauldron of fate. A fool caught in the same position would have had to work hard to fail.
