could it be the representative area for a wing inspection when looking for ice or snow on the wing prior to take-off.

traditionally,some carriers use black stripes on the wing as a visual aid in detecting ice accumulation,which makes the black turn to grey or white.I believe the former CAIL airplanes had this while AC did not
