60-80 in August then approx 40 a month till the layoffs are complete. I would imagine that retirees are factored in thiese numbers.

A new flight path

air Canada's restructuring plan is built on a move to smaller aircraft, which it believes will give it needed flexibility. It sees the reduction in the number of the once-ubiquitous Dash-8 commuter planes, and an expansion into more versatile regional jet aircraft.

All the 747's were planned to be gone by the end of June so far as I know.

These speculations are always interesting but I find this one hard to believe. This shows the Air Canada fleet growing rather than shrinking. Surely the banruptcy judge as well as the bondholders, banks, and the investment community will have something to say about this. Most of us expect a quarter fewer planes to go along with a quarter fewer employees.

It is still interesting, though!

I've heard that 385 will stay until the end of the year and the B747-400 Combi's may stay as the european riutes are filling up with passangers and cargo (Cargo on the main deck and underbelly). Could be wrong though but I hearwd they need 385 for at least the summer.

to me parkin the 747's makes sense, Air Canada wants to Streamline the fleet, therefore why have the support, both training and materials, in place for 2 airplanes doing the same job, longhaul large airplanes being the 340 and 747

maintaing pilot and AME currency on type is expensive, maintaing a parts stock is also expensive, tooling is expensive, there has to be some give

i see this happening between the 737 and the 320 family of aircraft soon as well,

hate to say it it makes sense, as did my layoff
