cp fa
Does Westjet do subcharters for Air Transat? A friend of mine is flying from Calgary to Mexico, and her travel agent told her that although the booking is on Air Transat, she might be flying on Westjet. Thanks in advance for clearing this up. Cheers, Jennifer
Guest bianchiboy
Short answer: yes. Good for WJ people, bad for Transat people as the company farms out flying to others, while laying off it's own employees. 34 pilots (roughly 10% of the pilot group) on the bricks in the next couple months (14 in May, remainder in June and July). Don't know how may f/a. Hey, at least Transat's president got to vote himself a $491,000ish bonus to add to his $500,000ish salary last year, while spouting the "we must all make sacrifices" line in every communication (incidentally, there were laid off employees at the time as well). Classy. (Absolutely no ill will to WJ btw, your company is doing a great job of securing work and opportunities for you, you should be proud to work for a place like that)

Gumbi
Actually, AT uses WJ on destinations where we couldn't obviously fill an A310 or 330, especially to sunspots destinations in the summertime ( ex. YYC-YEG to VRA/CUN ), though that might change for winter 2003-2004. All our widebodies will be busy flying to Europe, either from YVR, YYC, YEG, YYZ, YMX or YQB. Fact is European program is starting as soon as this month, in addition to those dest. we fly to year round (CDG-LGW-LIS-OPO-MAN)
60N30W
Westjet does not do any work for Air Transat. They (WJ) are contracted by various tour operators, some owned by Group Transat, parent of AT, to provide lift, that simple.

Some of these tour operators are owned by Group Transat, parent of AT, ie World of Vacation, Air Transat Holidays, etc. And that is who contracts WJ.
