It's not looking good... the sequel

Too much talk about going bankrupt will only send the paying customer to the competition. Instead of whinning to the press and public about the current state of his company, why doesn't he get off his duff and do something about it.

There is a great deal happening, based on what I have heard and seen written. Negotiations with unions. Negotiations with financial institutions (last week, in Europe). Negotiations with airports (last week, with GTAA). Negotiations with potential purchasers of assets. The government is being kept apprised.

To a degree, a good deal can change in the next seven days? Will there be war? How will it affect travel patterns and fuel prices? If the Iraqi military defects and sabotage of oil installations is seen as repairable in a short space of time, fuel prices could drop and people might get back into the travel mode.

Who knows?

But a lot is happening.

Even before the full amplitude of the crisis became obvious, marketing was working on some radical scenarios for dealing with the discount competition. It's not like nothing is happening. It's just that you aren't going to find out one morning what all the pieces are about

And if things get bad enough to force a CCAA, then some of these changes, reforms, cuts, asset sales, etc. will be folded into that process which has a dynamic of its own.
