Malcolm
No longer a frequent traveller but I don't remember this, so is this Fact or Fiction? Why Flight Attendants Always Sit on Their Hands During Takeoff and Landing (travelandleisure.com)
Kip Powick
From a FA The older brace positions required the crew to be seated on their hands. But this has changed. And the newer brace position is attained by sitting up straight on the jump seat with your back supported to keep the spine straight, hands on your thighs and your feet firmly on the ground. The brace positions are slightly different according to the area of the aircraft you are seated in. If you are facing the rear or the towards the tail of the aircraft, you slightly tilt your head up keeping your spine straight. And if you are facing towards the nose of the aircraft, you bend your head slightly down. The other honest funny reason why most of the crew sit on their hands while seated on their jumpseat during cruise, well the reason I always do this, is because it’s always freezing and I need to warm my hands
Specs
In a real life situation I would do like I saw in the The Day of the Triffids; Steal every available inflatable life vest I can and then lock myself in the loo and inflate them all. Kip Powick
If I was a passenger and it looked like a crash was inevitable I would run to the very back of the aircraft and get the last available seat...... …….because the tail is normally the first part the searchers find !!
