The only reason I have posted this is to, once again, illustrate just how poorly the Press can put out an aviation 'story'.Grin-Nod.gifGrin-Nod.gif

(CNN) -- A Boeing 747 cargo plane skidded on the runway at Sea-Tac Airport near Seattle Monday afternoon, the Federal Aviation Administration said. No injuries were reported.

The plane was arriving from John F. Kennedy International Airport in New York, FAA spokesman Mike Fergus told CNN.

The aircraft landed about 100 feet too far down the runway, according to an airport spokesman. It was towed back across the line, he said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the incident, though the Seattle area experienced snow showers throughout the day.

"It didn't come off the concrete, but technically it did go past the line," said Perry Cooper, the Sea-Tac spokesman.

Air traffic was not affected, Cooper said

A China Airlines Boeing 747-400, registration B-18717 performing freight flight CI-5391 from New York JFK,NY to Seattle,WA (USA), overran the runway by about 100 feet/30 meters while landing on Seattle's runway 34L (length 2591 meters/8500 feet) in low visibility (RVR more than 6000 feet), light snowfall, temperatures below freezing, fair braking action and winds from 330 at 17 knots gusting 22. The airplane came to a stop on the paved surface of the runway end safety area at 16:28L (00:28Z Nov 23rd). No injuries and no damage occurred, a number of aircraft needed to go around.

The airplane needed to be pushed back onto the runway, then taxied to the apron on its own power.

China Airlines said: "A China Airlines B747-400 all-cargo freighter, aircraft registration number B-18717, safely landed at the Seattle-Tacoma International Airport on November 22, 2010 at 16:28 local time after arriving from New Yorks JFK Airport while carrying out cargo flight number CI-5391. As a safety precaution due to snowy weather and ice having formed on the runway, the flight's Captain decided to bring the aircraft to a complete stop and request ground guidance. After confirming there were no safety concerns, the aircraft taxied normally on its own to the cargo area."

Following the statement of China Airlines The Aviation Herald decided to release the relevant tower recordings against usual policies: ATC recording beginning 16:24L, all non-relevant communications blanked out, timing retained.

Seattle's runway 34C is 2873 meters/9426 feet, runway 34R 3627 meters/11900 feet long.
