Where is he ?

Was down south last week. For those who complain about our Canadian Airports, Canadian Security and Canadian Airlines ..... here is a short story.

Checked in at UAL LAX. on a Sat. Lines for all checkins, including self checking, stretched out onto the sidewalk. Took 60mins to reach a self checkin terminal. Going through security, all passengers were required to remove their shoes, yes even women wearing those nothing type of shoes that would only hide a oz at most of any chemical.

Connected through Denver where we saw the result of UALs "economy plus marketing". There were only 60 pax on the 737 ex Den, seated in the last 10 rows 3x3. When the doors closed there was the usual ground swell to move into the vacant economy seats but the FAs (who had no choice) told the passengers to remain seating as to occupy those seats was subject to a USD35.00 surcharge.

Aircraft pushed back and started it's taxi. Came to a halt and sat for 10mins with both engines going (737-300) and then there was an announcement from the cockpit that there was a weight and balance issue that needed to be resolved. Another 10 mins went by and then a FA came to the back and moved some passengers forward. Away we went after 20mins, once airborne the Captain apologized for the delay and said he would attempt to make scheduled arrival in YYC, this he did. So 20mins of extra fuel burnt on the ground + extra onroute fuel burnt to make up the delay = MARKETING PLAN NOT THRASHED OUT WITH OPERATIONS I talked to the Captain on the way out who was still shaking his head and said that the delay was because OPS had to get permission to move the passengers as this type of action could dilute the new product. cool.gif
