It is not always about money. For example I take my overtime in Time off not cash. the time off is far more valuable than cash
same for the Junior Captain. sure he gets more money but no lifestyle to spend it on

Well, Kip, some of us are nodding our heads. A key point in support of the exploration aspect is that that's one endeavor clearly better done with robots, at about 10% cost and 0% risk of lost lives.
Boestar - Your economics applies equally if we give all those high-paid folks a shovel and get some pot-holes filled
Cheers, IFG -
agreed it does. But where is the "glory" in filling a pot hole. Heck we cannot even find young people to work a farm for the summer because its actual work
People want the glory job not the actual work job

so much for his crew rest period. Does that not impact flight safety now?

Think about the four trips to the moon coming up......in fact think about the $$$$ expended on all this stuff and meanwhile we can't even keep this planet "green"
while the expenditure is enormous you have to think where that money actually ends up. There are thousands of prople supporting Artemis and NASA directly on the project. They all get paid, and probably pretty well. They all take that money and go out to dinner and buy products from local retailers. Buy cars, new houses....whatever. That money then gets into the pockets of families that sell those products and the cycle continues.
When the Government says THEY creates X number of Jobs, this is what they mean. Stop the Artemis Mission alone would put thousands of people out of work at the beginning of the worst recession since 2008. Not a good idea.

a flat board can generate lift at the correct angle of attack. It will not be efficient.
A flat bottomed wing will generate lift with a VERY small angle of attack and very little if any deflection.
What about a symmetrical airfoil? The airflow over the wing and under the wing travel at the same velocity and pressure with an AOA of 0 deg. rendering it neutral. increasing the AOA is what causes the area of low pressure to develop on top of the airfoil. However the argument could also be made that the air on lower surface is now being deflected downward. So which one has the greatest effect the pressure or the angle of deflection?
Interesting topic as I think in certain cases Bernoulli wins and in other cases the deflection theory plays into it.

Just a coincidence that Boeing told Canada in 2022 that the line is going to shut down in 2025 and sole source contract would keep it open just a little longer? Bombardier and PAL Aerospace have an alternative using a Global...
A Green Global is worth about $60M. A Completed 737 is about $50. Toss in all the goodies required I am willing to bet the global comes out at a much higher cost.
I love the Global but I am not sure its the right platform

Russischer Sternmotor – Russian Radial Engine Start And Run
This video features a Russian radial engine start-up and run of an Antonov at a traditional tractor meeting in Burkhardtsdorf. Because it was a very cold and damp morning, issues were encountered during the initial start-up.
Fortunately, it still ran quite smoothly once it warmed up a bit. The sound of the engine was deafening and typically emits a big smoke during the start-up because a huge amount of oil goes into the lower cylinder which is then burned.
Overall, it’s an awesome engine that looks and sounds amazing. Got to say, there’s nothing quite like that radial engine sound. Listening to the raw sound of this mechanical beauty gives us goosebumps. Imagine how great this would sound if one could hear it live.
Might have started better with a dummy prop on there for some inertia

We do not have enough pilots to support marginal routes and are focusing on the major centres.

its in the ACT. How is the supreme court overturning this law.

It is actually in the TSB Mandate that the CVR FDR NOT be used in this fashion or for this purpose. This is a bad decision that I hope gets appealed

There was a push to complete the second one about 15 years ago or so. It never went anywhere

Dear CEO Elon Musk:
As you are aware, nearly three weeks ago Hurricane Ian impacted Florida’s Southwest coast, inundating the area with salty storm surge waters. The Category 4 hurricane was so massive, storm surge reached 16 feet in certain areas and went as far inland as downtown Fort Myers. From my experience in traveling the state, there were a tremendous amount of Electronic Vehicles (EVs) in this part of Florida, and we now know for a fact that any EV that was submerged in saltwater is a fire risk.
As the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration (NHTSA) confirmed last week, “Test results specific to saltwater submersion show that salt bridges can form within the battery pack and provide a path for short circuit and self-heating. This can lead to fire ignition.” The federal agency also confirmed that, “Lithium-ion vehicle battery fires have been observed both rapidly igniting and igniting several weeks after battery damage occurred.” Further, I saw with my own eyes as North Collier Fire Rescue fought an EV fire that continuously reignited. It was surreal, and frankly scary, watching fire teams fight this EV fire, using tens-of-thousands of gallons of water to cool the batteries, and then again watching the EV reignite. I even found out later that the car reignited on the tow truck. Florida firefighters have been the tip of the spear in hurricane recovery operations, and more has to be done to help these heroes deal with the unique challenges of EV fires. The fumes from the fires are dangerous, fires reignite, and fire teams don’t have a lot of tools at their disposal in dealing with these lithium-ion vehicle battery fires.
The unfortunate reality is that there is a population of vehicles that could spontaneously combust, putting our first responders at risk, and the manufacturers are nowhere to be found. For as big a risk as this is to fire teams, for companies who have received an immense sum of subsidies from taxpayers, I would have hoped the reaction by manufacturers would have been more robust – especially as these EVs supposedly have a tremendous amount of technology and connectivity. There could be a family who evacuated, whose home was left relatively intact from Ian, who may still lose everything because of an abandoned EV, left in their garage, that catches fire as a result of salty storm surge waters. That’s a risk that requires more of a response from manufacturers than just telling customers to consult the owner’s manual.
the battery pack on a tesla is a sealed unit which has a coolant running through it. Water penetration due to submersion is not possible

This is a Quick and dirty takeoff and return to land at Lukla. Really a small place

Courchevel is another one that has little space and a fun up hill landing and downhill takeoff

Yeah... Last year when I was picking my daughter up from Ottawa to come home for the summer, the car got a little full so my wife flew back.
My other daughter (who lives in Ottawa). drove her to the airport and myself and my other daughter headed home.
We arrived home (Toronto) 5 minutes after my wife. Is it really worth flying short routes?

They are no longer in the hangar on the base. They have a whole new building now added on to the Museum.
I love this place and visit every couple of years. One of the best Museums out there
