Guest acj
Air Canada System Operations Temporarily Suspended Due Primary and Secondary Power Failure MONTREAL, Aug. 15 /CNW Telbec/ - Air Canada operations remain temporarily suspended following the failure of primary and secondary power systems at its System Operations Control Centre in Mississauga, Ontario. The airline had resumed operations earlier this morning and had operated a number of flights prior to the secondary system shut-down at 7:00 a.m. Air Canada Jazz and ZIP flights were unaffected. The airline expects to resume operations at mid-day. Until further notice, customers on flights affected by the blackout are requested not to present themselves at the airport without a confirmed reservation on an alternate flight. This second interruption to operations within 24 hours will result in further flight delays and cancellations throughout the airline's worldwide network as operations resume following the electrical outage. All customers are advised to check on the status of their flight prior to leaving for the airport by consulting "Flight Status" on the Air Canada website at aircanada.com or calling Air Canada's toll free number for flight status information at 1-888-422-7533. To facilitate rebooking customers on affected flights, Air Canada is waiving change fees for customers with restricted tickets. Customers who made their original reservation through a travel agent should return to the agent for rebooking rather than presenting themselves at the airport. Customers who booked directly with Air Canada and wish to rebook are requested to call Air Canada reservations at 1-888-247-2262; TTY: 1-800-361-8071. As call centres have also been affected by the power outage, customers should expect long call wait times due to increased call volumes and reduced capacity. Air Canada will provide customers with further updates on the status of operations for the day.
Guest M. McRae
Attention News Editors: Air Canada Jazz Continues Full Operation HALIFAX, Aug. 15 /CNW Telbec/ - With a return of electricity today to Toronto, Ottawa and cities in the northeastern United States, Air Canada Jazz is operating its full schedule in Canada and the U.S. Jazz's Systems Operations Control Centre is located in Halifax and is unaffected by the current power failures at Air Canada's System Operations Control Centre in Ontario. As part of the Air Canada network, Jazz flights are numbered using Air Canada codes. Jazz operates all "AC" flights numbered between 7650 and 8299. Flights within Jazz's numbering range returned to full operation at start- up this morning. Passengers may experience some flight delays and cancellations as back-up congestion from yesterday's electrical outage is cleared. For this reason, all passengers are still advised to check on the status of their Jazz flight and any connecting flights prior to leaving for the airport, either by consulting "Flight Status" on the Air Canada website at aircanada.com or by calling toll-free to 1-888-422-7533. Air Canada Jazz is Canada's second largest airline operating a fleet of over 90 aircraft including Dash 8, Bombardier CRJ and British Aerospace 146 aircraft throughout Canada and the United States. -30- For further information: Air Canada Jazz Media, Debra Williams (London, ON), (519) 659-5696, Tamar Sivucha (Halifax, NS), (902) 873-5054 or Rachid Ziam (Quebec, QB), (418) 877-7624
