The ongoing challenges we have faced recently throughout our organization > must have seemed a million miles away yesterday (Wednesday) for 17 Trenton technicians who > all received highly regarded military honours. Dale Corrigan, Joe Fitzgerald, Dennis Green, > Ted Hawke, Dave Heaton, Dan Hook, John Janas, Doug Jenkins, James Lamberton, Rick Leger, > Paul Mercer, Ron Neri, Mel Paul, Sam Russo, Ron Smith, Ken Stuart, and Gary Taylor all > received the South-West Asia Service Medal for playing an active role in the fight against > terrorism. The technicians were part of a 30-person deployment to the Persian Gulf area for > a six month period, overseeing the maintenance needs of a Department of National Defence > A310. They worked in intense heat while changing many tires and brakes (creating numerous > challenges for Materials Management), and overcoming complex APU problems while fixing > numerous other snags and conducting regular maintenance checks. The DND reported just one > 1.5 hour technical delay during the entire six month mission. It was a very proud day for > Air Canada, Air Canada Technical Services, and Air Canada Maintenance.
