I believe that most people (pilots and the public) would not argue about the unique and challenging training in addition to deep experience it takes to become an airline pilot and that yes, they should receive better compensation than a baggage handler who is making $24/hr. However, it is the marketplace that should/ will determine the moentary compensation they receive. From the perspective of the stockholders, etc, if a company is losing money and there are other companies in the same industry making money, then the BODs and CEOs are obliged to find out why. If, in the case of Air Canada, part of the reason is the relatively great disparity in wages between the ACPA and other pilots in the same industry, then to for the Company to survive, they must make difficult decisions. If they don't, sooner or later, the laws of economics and nature will take over ... liquidation!
