Hi Mitch,

I was thinking of taking a course to learn a little more about aircraft mechanics. The airline I work for has a pretty cool schedule where we work either 7 or 14 in a row and then have 7 or 14 off. So I have a lot of free time. Have you heard of the correspondence courses offered by Education Direct? (formerly ICS)Any info would be appreciatd.

I took the course that you are referring to. It allows you to obtain a Transport Canada recognized diploma in aircraft maintenance without ever seeing an airplane.

Its not too expensive, the books and tests arrive promptly and you can pay by the month if you like.

I highly recommend it.

That may be true, but in order to become an AME you still have to put in your time working on the birdies and then pass the TC exams including CARS and the appropriate trade related tests.
