  1. Reminiscent of this one in ways. https://www.baaa-acro.com/crash/crash-lockheed-c-5b-galaxy-dover-afb But an incredible lack of flight deck discipline in HNL... and some iffy sounding SOP direction for engine malfunctions. Too bad it turned out the way it did.
  2. I understand the need to speak up for yourself, but this probably is not a smart move on his part. "Hire me, employ me but if you ever have to let me go for any circumstance, and you don't give me what I feel I deserve (like lifetime passes even though I didn't meet the requirements), then I'll make a stink and take you to court..." I bet the headhunters will be tripping over themselves to recruit him. Not.
  3. There doesn't seem to be steep enough consequences for people anymore. Media likes to glorify these events. They are clickbait and revenue generators. And the neglected people in life get their fame for a few minutes. It's a win-win for media and the antagonists. The media never seems to follow up with the aftermath of court proceedings and maybe some jail time for people... but there actually might not be anything to report because the lawyers look after everything behind the scenes. And so the circle continues to revolve. Fame for the aggressive pax, clickbait for the media, revenue for the lawyers. The airlines get no support from lawmakers (maybe on the surface but certainly not in the end), and we, the "professional pilots and flight attendants" are left to look like we drive shuttle busses between the Maury Pauvich and Dr. Phil sets.
  4. Be interesting to see if "Approach Warn" go-arounds become more common on CAT II/III approaches in the new 5G world.
  5. As Johnboy says, it appears the "solo" was in another airplane (a Cessna) and not the Cirrus. It's very possible ATC knew the Metro was single pilot. These small airports, regular flights etc. Sometimes the controllers and pilots know each other by name. Very common for controllers to know lots of details about regular sked runs.
  6. Juan Browne has does a really good job of explaining incidents and accidents. He's a 777 pilot himself and was a US military pilot in the past. His military and civilian pilot experience shows when he describes the ins and outs of events like this. He did a fabulous job of explaining the Snowbird crash last year. .
  7. It was my attempt at humour and in consideration of my thoughts about GGN 2.0.
  8. Oh good- here I was afraid Pivot was going to get away with a YKF monopoly ? https://canadianaviationnews.wordpress.com/2020/09/15/pivot-airlines-partners-with-the-region-of-waterloo-international-airport-ykf-ottawa-toronto-windsor-and-montreal-here-we-come/
  9. Agree with you here TF. Just last week I was contacted to provide a reference for a (very junior) laid off AC pilot. When we spoke in advance, I asked him if this was a "temporary move while laid off, or a full-on career change" (paraphrasing). In short, he's seen enough, and will make the decision when it's presented to him, but at this point he's ready for a new challenge (IT infrastructure/Programming remotely job). My experience with many of the younger-Millennial and Gen Z personalities is that there is not the commitment to any one career anymore- even the opportunity of flying at the major airlines doesn't matter. It will be even harder to return to being paid airline entry wages comparatively when quite likely, working elsewhere will pay more. The shortage will return barring some further freak economic nail. Now if only Trudeau and his posse would start addressing the issue we could be prepared for it. In the short term however, he's giving us the finger.
  10. Look at the dirt coming out of those engines! ?
  11. From Kargokings posted article: Who comes up with this stuff? (And if you wonder what I mean, check out the AD).
  12. Kinda begs the question, did he get his Canadian ATPL and did he actually stay and maintain "current" as a line pilot at WJA? Bet I know the answer. That said, he certainly has an impressive resume (on the surface).
  13. I'm genuinely curious on how they conduct these sim exercises. Having test pilots or FAA inspectors doing the flying isn't a proper assessment in my view. It's like having a biased jury in a local trial because they have been immersed in the news. They should be doing a "change of venue". Line pilots who don't spend any more time in simulators than legally required. Pick a range of crews from high performing to low performing (based on training records) and give them a very basic briefing (the "dumbed down version"). That's where they should be setting the benchmark. A pilot took 4 times longer than expected eh? Well guess what... in the airplane on a dark and ugly night over the water on departure some time in 2 or 3 years from now is when its going to come up, and I'm certain that it will be unexpected. So a couple of test pilots or FAA inspectors bolted firmly to the sim bay floor after days and months and now years of working on this doesn't scratch the sniff test with me. As for the other points of the article about Boeing's coziness with the regulator, old news and nothing seems to change.
