Federal enviro minister David Anderson announced yesterday that his department's going to kick off a whole new series of the much-loved "hinterland who's who" public service announcements that used to grip the nation's TV watchers round dawn of a Saturday morning.

Yes, why not indeed...

Then there's the wandering drinker budgie, who has known to be spotted as far west of British Columbia, late at night. Much like the Radwanski carrier pigeon of Ontario, once ubiquitous at luxuriant watering holes in Quebec, he is rarely encountered in such haunts anymore.

Then there's the saw-toothed shawinigan badger. a voracious creature who - a zoologist writes - "feeds on frogs, fruits and insects" he has some distinctive characteristics that exemplify his combative nature. "A peculiar feature of all badgers is a jaw so formed that it has an almost unbreakable grip.

How I hope they have that same haunting music...

I will be sure to fire up my black and white television, stubby in hand, and view with the same rapt attention I did as a kid.
