Guest James
News from The Globe and Mail Kwok resigns from Air Canada board 00:00 EDT Saturday, October 04, 2003 Eva Lee Kwok has resigned from Air Canada's board of directors effective immediately to "avoid the appearance of conflict" as a result of her close ties with the airline's potential investor, Victor Li. Ms. Kwok and her husband Stanley Kwok have been closely linked with Mr. Li and his father, Hong Kong billionaire Li Ka-shing, since the late 1980s when they worked together to develop Vancouver's Expo lands. Mr. Li is one of two bidders seeking to acquire $700-million of new equity in Air Canada as part of its plan to emerge from bankruptcy protection. Ms. Kwok has been an Air Canada director since 1988 and she did not participate in board discussions last week when directors tapped Mr. Li and Cerberus Capital as finalists to buy the airlines equity.
