Guest Operation Bomberclad

Interview with Robert Deluce on RobTV

Regco Boss discusses political and environmental issues surrounding the bridge-building project to the YTZ airport and gives a forecast of startup for Sep. 2004, about 1 year after the original projected startup date. Also, declaration that a firm order is in place with Bombardier. (To be verified in the Toronto Star)

No mention on any difficulties regarding load factors, noise, aircraft size, runway length, time restrictions, connections with Pearson, and aircraft type. No discussion on corporate structure, such as debt, stock, or company relation to the Toronto Economic Development Corporation or any advantages enjoyed by REGCO in landing fees over the Jazz regional operation out of YTZ. Just the brige. And nothing but the bridge.

(Just a little after 1/3 of the way into the business news with Howard Green.)

Deluce's comments aren't very encouraging nor optimistic about a post-CCAA Air Canada as others have expressed. "because the (AC) corporate culture will remain unchanged"

How much you wanna bet, that once there's a majority stake holder in AC that the " Corporate culture" changes :) and there may even be some corporate accountability ;)

Well, one can always dream.

No certainty about just how an investor in the mothercorp will change the corporate culture by attacking the work-to-rule climate that has persisted there, even through bankruptcy. Not only that, but the mothercorp is riddled with people that fully believe they are part of the entitlement or expect corporate welfare. To add to this, retirements are on the hook- a linch-pin being cut before the wings and wheels come off.

If you ask me, this whole bridge boondoggle is a just a secondary notion to eventual plans for a transborder set up via Pearson. A well-postitioned regional could then soak up all connecting transborder traffic from several airlines. An exclusive operation out of YTZ could not accomplish that, unless they were actually waiting for the pearson high-speed rail. (Seems to co-incide) But then again, having to transfer to YTZ from YYZ is a disadvantage any way you look at it.

Jazz is very poorly positioned in that regard, and cannot compete, because we are stuck with the dead weight of the mothercorp expecting us to support their dying corporate culture. Will point-to-point save our bacon? Mothercorp execs are focussed on do-or-die competition with other airlines and will not allow Jazz to grow as a regional and possibly negotiate its own agreements with other airlines as happens with regional airlines in the States

I am assuming that ROBTV does not interview Jazz execs or anyone associated with the mothercorp, because they are pro investor, and therefore Wetjest, their market darling gets all of the attention. The same with any other start up remotely related to undermining the mothercorp. So I am assuming that REGCO and Wetjest will be getting it on in the future, expecting to capitalize on the mothercorps misfortunes.

Preposterous as it may sound, Wetjest wants transborder short haul and turboprops according to Klyde, and REGCO provides that. The only transborder market of any consequence is YYZ.
