National Defence: Media Advisory-Troops Depart For

Bosnia

CFB PETAWAWA, ONTARIO-

MA-033-03

146 soldiers from units across Canada will be the first Canadian

peacekeepers to depart from Trenton on September 22nd for

Bosnia-Herzegovina as Rotation 13 Operation Palladium.

Over the next two weeks, approximately 1,220 soldiers of Land

Forces Central Area will depart Trenton to replace the soldiers

of Rotation 12 who are returning from their 6 months tour in

Bosnia.

The Chief of Land Staff, Lieutenant-General Rick Hillier and the

Land Forces Central Area Commander, Brigadier-General Marc

Lessard will bid farewell to soldiers departing from Trenton.

Canadian military continues to play a vital role in the Balkans

in maintaining a safe and secure environment. Media are invited

to see the troops off at either of the two following locations:

Location one, Canadian Forces Base Petawawa

Where: Building C-40. Once through the gate, media may follow the

maple leaf signs to the departure location.

What: Soldiers say goodbye to their families, interview with the

soldiers may be conducted

When: Soldiers leave by bus at 1 p.m. Monday September 22nd for

Trenton.

Location two, Canadian Forces Base Trenton

Where: Military aircraft departure terminal on the north side of

8 Wing Trenton

What: See the troops before they board a CC-150 Polaris aircraft.

The Chief of Land Staff and Area Commander will be available for

an interview once the soldiers have departed.

When: Aircraft should take-off at 6 p.m. Monday September 22nd

for Bosnia-Herzegovina.
