"THE MIGHTY MARTIN MARS"

Firefighting certainly wasn't what Glenn L. Martin had in mind for the design of the Martin Mars. Originally conceived as a bomber for long range missions and patrols, the production aircraft were redesigned and classified for long-range general transport because of the demonstrated heavy-lift capability of the prototype.

Damn impressive aircraft Malcolm. Especially as a youngster.

A good family friend & neighbour of ours used to fly 'em...Dan MacIvor. At Sprout Lake on Vancouver Island, (at 7-8 years old) we were given a tour & walked the wings. Pretty hard to imagine how they could clear the trees with a full load.

Great to see they're still around.
