Editorial Comment On Airline Employees In The Current Market Situation

Flight attendant's remarks not isolated

By Dave Zweifel

May 19, 2003

Some Web site apparently has posted my recent column about the airline attendant who vented her frustrations over the layoffs and cutbacks by the airlines and how they've not only ruined the morale of the workers, but contributed to the delays at many of the nation's airports.

Dozens of airline employees have since e-mailed me - several of them from the new Detroit airport - to second the attendant's assertions. Almost all of them plead with me not to use their name.

"I can be fired for talking to you, the media," said one. "It is in our code of conduct." Those clever airline execs - best to keep the public in the dark.
