Guest flyersclub
this from the retiree assoc today, fyi. "Bulletin # 6 – May 14, 2003 Pensions and Benefits Committee Subject: Who Represents Retiree Interests? As you know, Pionairs on behalf of retirees, have retained legal counsel to represent us in Court proceedings involving Pensions and Benefits. Recently, we’ve received a number of questions as to whether we should simply look to Union representatives to defend our interests and not bother with legal counsel. Some Unions have indeed stated that they plan to represent former members who are now retired and the Pionairs welcome their efforts before the Court. However, we have been advised by the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions, the Pension regulator for Canada, and we have other legal opinion that there may be conflict-of-interest between current employees and employees who are now retired. We have, consequently, chosen additional representation (Mr. John Varley) and he is working closely with Union lawyers. This dual effort is complimentary, very powerful and in the best interests of retirees. It will give us the strongest voice possible in negotiations that will determine the future of our pensions.
