Alitalia officials in Israel explained they have not reached the pilot for comment, adding if the story is verified, the matter will be dealt with appropriately. We fly to an Asian destination that borders a body of water that's commonly known by a name that residents of that destination don't like. If you use the offending geographical name in a route announcement, you risk giving the passengers a loss of face. I've seen passengers get off in a state of humiliation because of it. Why intentionally risk offending anyone with a cabin announcement? Passengers pay all our wages in order to get from A to B with the least amount of hassle. Injecting your personal political views into a cabin announcement risks alienating someone who might then choose to fly with another carrier.
