Guest Dash eight

We were told yesterday by mgmt that there will be no Line maintenence in London(yxu). How will this effect the operation if aircraft come in with non deferrable snags? Do they wait for maintenence to come from yyz to repair the aircraft? What about the scenario of a flight coming into yxu from yyz that goes us? doe they return to yyz?

From Jazz Flash: Line maintenance for Dash 8 aircraft in London will be discontinued by the
end of June 2003. Currently, there are 35 positions within this department.
Approximately eight (8) technicians will remain in London to support Jazz
operations.

Actually it's 2 crews of 11 guys plus about 4 avionics. For the last 4 or 5 months the work packages coming through London could have been handled by 3 or 4 guys.

In case you hadn't noticed, compared to your examples, there are often up to 5 planes that overnight in YXU and up to 15 deparures each day for Jazz in YXU (some days 5 before 0830)
"Sacred cow vs common sense"
PS It doesn't make too much sense to have no line maintenance capability in YXU when you have a hangar full of Dash8's being ripped apart for "D" checks next door. "Duh, sorry we can't top up your fixed O2 but we can overhaul the landing gear while you wait for maintenance to come from YYZ"

Are you Joe Randall?

Why can't the boys doing the D checks make a trip over to the line to perform maintanence on an aircraft? Not trying to stir the pot here, I really don't know.

That's exactly the way it will work....Not a big deal for day line Mtc, but this will increase the night workload in YYZ.....Wait to see what happens I guess........

Yup, that IS what happens. There is always someone, usually the crew chief who rotates nights to days, that handles all line duties. When there is no crew chief available, someone else subs in for ramp calls. Yesterday that was me.
There will still be guys at night, just the crews will be about half size they are now.
