160,000 students to participate in 2nd annual massive game of tag!

CAHPERD

On Thursday May 25th 2006, 160,000 students, teachers and volunteers from 600 schools across Canada will be participating in the SpecTAGular National School Challenge a massive game of tag!

SpecTAGular is a national physical activity challenge designed to get Canadian children moving for 30 minutes of moderate physical activity. This second annual event is hosted by the Canadian Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance (CAHPERD).

"Due to an overwhelming response from the 2005 SpecTAGular Challenge, we decided to offer this event for a second time," explains Andrea Grantham, CAHPERD Executive Director. "What's great about an activity like SpecTAGular is that tag is a traditional game that children of all ages still play today, it requires no equipment, little organization, and there are innumerable ways to play."

As today's kids are leading more and more sedentary lives, finding creative ways to motivate them to be physically active can prove to be challenging. Since its inception in 2002, CAHPERD's National School Challenge program has been successful in inspiring children and youth to participate in physical activity through a variety of unique events.
