Guest
Isn't the receipt of a 'subsidy' by one airline vs. another something akin to operating in a weirdly regulated market? In this case, doesn’t a subsidy give WJ the opportunity to provide their product at a lower cost? If so, isn’t this a form of ‘unfair’ competition? Pretty much every airport / department of tourism in the Caribbean offers some sort of subsidy to carriers. Some offer it in cash and some offer it in reduced landing fees, terminal rents, advertising/marketing dollars, preferred fuel rates based on sked service vs charter service, etc... The same goes for a lot of US airports who are more than willing to offer steeply discounted rates for new carriers or new routes. Incentives are everywhere and there isn't a carrier around who says "no thank you." They just don't like to brag about it.
